Real’s loss after 36 matches:

Real Madrid was unbeaten in 36 matches in all competitions. And Lille showed a surprise against the Champions League record 15-time champions. The French club defeated the current best of Europe 1-0 at home on Wednesday night. Real’s performance in the first half was completely uneventful. They couldn’t handle it that way. The second half showed some semblance of plan but the Galacticos couldn’t get the job done. Lille scored the only winning goal late in the first half on penalties.
Kylian Mbappé could not shine even after returning from injury. Neither Vinicius Junior nor the new sensation Endrik could lead the team. The two teams met for the first time in any competition, and Lille pulled off an incredible win against Europe’s most successful club on the first appearance. The record 15-time champions of the competition suffered the bitter taste of defeat in the Champions League for the first time since May 2023.

Except for the last few minutes, Real’s performance was plain. Especially in attack, they did not show their known speed. None of the star-studded team could do justice to their names. Real Madrid failed to score in any match for the first time after 10 matches in all competitions this season.

On this day, Endrik (18 years and 73 days)Real’s loss became the youngest player in the starting eleven of Real in the Champions League. He broke the record of the Spanish club’s legendary forward Raul Gonzales. The Spaniard set the previous record in September 1995 against Dutch club Ajax at the age of 18 years and 78 days.

This loss could leave Real in big trouble in the new format Champions League. Others’ wins and their own failures have pushed them further back in the points table, 17th with 3 points after two rounds. They are followed by Lille on equal points. Real’s loss
